Quebec gov’t funding electric bus pilot project for Montreal | CTV Montreal News

Quebec gov’t funding electric bus pilot project for Montreal | CTV Montreal News.

I think that on paper this is a good idea, but I just don’t see how this is practical. The article mentions that the bus needs to be charged every hour for 5 to 10 minutes and with the tight schedules buses run on here, I just don’t see how this is feasible.

What do you all think of this? Yea or nea?

  1. We have electric buses in Trento…but it’s way smaller than Montreal…here, presumably once they get to destination they recharge during the driver’s break

    • It does makes sense for smaller places, but I just can’t see it happening here. The buses here are, for the most part, constantly on the move. Bus drivers rarely have 5-10 minute breaks.

      • Poor sods! Here not long ago, our bus drivers went on a sort of strike…they kept to their schedules so that if they were supposed to arrive at a place by 4:00, they’d slow down to make sure they were ther precisely at 4:00…basically everything slowed down. The reason they were striking though was because they needed a pee break. The company had wanted to not replace the drivers who were due to go into retirement to save money. Don’t know how it worked out in the end…but it stuck in my mind that bus drivers have a bladder too :-)…

      • Yep, common complaint here. They can’t really go on strike now, with the economy the way it is and what not.

I can’t imagine not being allowed to pee when I need to.

      • Yep…pretty hard on the bladder, same here about strikes, but they could do what they call a white strike…which is follow the schedule to the letter…you’d be surprised how things went heywire!
